Every year, players who shaped the league walk away from the NBA still holding the skill, the name, and the following the game gave them — and mostly nowhere built for what they carry next. What exists today is entertainment-first: a stage for highlight runs and touring exhibitions.
Kingdom Basketball Association starts somewhere else. Not “one more league,” but a structure built around legacy, brotherhood, and purpose — with basketball as the platform, not the whole point.

Franchise — City-anchored teams
Franchises are sold into every market in the league, with a player-ownership pathway so legends can hold equity in the city they represent — not just a jersey. Original teams that license us their name and colors are welcomed as partners, capped at 20% equity in that franchise; the rest belongs to the players who represent it, the city it plays in, and the Kingdom it was built to serve. In this league, the first shall be last, and the last shall be first.
Season — Lighter, showcase format
A shorter, travel-conscious calendar built around showcase weekends rather than a nightly grind — respecting the bodies and families of players past their prime playing years.
Revenue — Franchise sales, merch, media, sponsorship
Founding franchise sales fund launch; ongoing revenue comes from league and team merchandise, media/broadcast rights, and sponsorships aligned with the league’s values.
Governance — Independent, then in dialogue
KBA is built to stand on its own first — proving the model with players, fans, and sponsors — before pursuing any formal relationship with the NBA or its retired-players association.

No. KBA is an independent league built by and for retired players. We’re building the model to stand on its own first, with any formal relationship with the NBA or its retired-players association pursued later, from a position of proven strength — not licensed dependence.
Who can play?
Founding rosters are built from retired NBA players only, recruited individually as franchise anchors rather than through an open draft.
How does franchise ownership actually work?
